Description
According to the object's owner, "[d]usting crops for blight and insects was accomplished with [a] hand duster that is equipped with straps for [mounting?] on a person's back. A hand bellows produced the rush of air that is directed with a flexible base."
This duster came from Connecticut. Caryl Soucie photographed it as part of a student project at the University of Maine at Fort Kent in 1974. It belonged to J. Arnold McNamee (1917-1985), a long-time potato farmer in Fort Fairfield.
McNamee described each object photographed on his farm. Many appeared to no longer be in use when Soucie visited. No date is given for the production of this duster; it may date from the mid-twentieth century, but this is uncertain.
