Description
Charles Codman (1800-1842) painted this oil, "Lady with Dove," in about 1830.
Codman, a native of Massachusetts, came to Portland in 1822. He began as an ornamental painter, then moved to portraits, before becoming a landscape painter. He was encouraged by Portland art critic John Neal.
