Description
The ice palace built in Lewiston City Park in February 1925 as part of the first International Snowshoe Congress, which was held in Lewiston.
Canada had held snowshoe conventions since 1908. The Union Canadienne des Raquetteurs was founded in March 1907 and the first convention, in Québec City, held in January 1908.
The Franco-American snowshoe clubs were quite popular with some 25 clubs in Lewiston-Auburn. The conventions drew thousands of people from French Canada and the U.S. and featured parades with many club bands, snowshoe competitions, and other entertainment.
