Terry began her career at Mercy Hospital on May 11, 1981. She discussed the allure of living in Portland, her work as a lay coordinator at the Sisters of Mercy Mother House, and her time as the perioperative nurse manager. Throughout her career and work at other institutions, she considered Mercy "home". Terry stressed the importance of community and family at Mercy, as well as the emphasis of outreach and mission.
