Description

Ina Achorn Smith (1872-1942), daughter of William and Eltheir Cox Achorn (1844-1891), was a teacher until 1901 when she married Harold R. Smith (1870-1938), son of Dr. A. R. G. Smith of North Whitefield.

They lived with her father, William, at 95 Main Street, but when he died in 1920, she closed his Achorn Bros. business, and they moved to Waldoboro where Harold practiced law. Ina was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Woman's Club of Waldoboro, and she was on the Board of Trustees of the Lincoln Home in Newcastle. When Harold died in 1938 she moved back to Coopers Mills to live with her daughter Ellen A. Smith Weiblen.

Ellen (1902-1987) graduated from Hebron Academy in 1919 and Colby College in 1925. She was postmaster from 1928-1945, married Erwin Weiblen (1892-1979) in 1937, and they had three children.

Ellen was one of the first donors to the Whitefield Historical Society organized in 1976.
