Description
The playground children of Deering Oaks Park give a patriotic pageant on Saturday, August 30 1924. On that day the park had over 2,000 spectators. The pageant began with the arrival of Miss. Portland, the guest of Honor. The next performance was the "America, Yesterday and Today" pageant. This pageant began with Indians, then introduced Early Settlers and finished with Patriotism. Following the pageant was the baby carriage parade. Throughout the day there was kite flying and various sporting contests. The final event was judging and awards.
