Description
Sarah Tibbetts wrote to her husband, Captain John M. Tibbetts from Westport Island where she was caring for their youngest child, John Fremont Tibbetts, and her grandson, Charles Leroy "Roy" Boucher.
Tibbetts was at sea with their teenage son Eddie. The trials of being alone caring for young children with limited means, harsh weather and sickness, made her sad for the loss of her oldest daughter Carrie (1860-1894) and sad for Carrie's children who no longer had the tenderness of a mother's love when sick.
Carrie (Clara Edith Boucher Holbrook) died in September 1894, soon after childbirth and one month before Sarah wrote this letter.
